When it comes to introducing civilization and cultural values to the world, the religious buildings has always played a significant role. Same role has been played by the architecture in enhancing the beauty of the religious buildings. Throughout history, architecture has stood as a representation of society, reflecting the values, prosperity, and eventual downfall of civilizations over time. Apart from being a part of our culture, architecture is a visionary art that how we see the world. The historic face of architecture is considered as the most expressive, influential and permanent building in the society. Most of the architectural remains that survive from ancient and medieval India are spiritual, divine and religious in nature. In different part of the country, distinct architectural style of temples/ shrines was the result of geographical, ethnic, cultural, and historical diversities. Two broad orders/ styles of temple construction in India are known as Nagara Style in the north and Dravida Style in the south. At times, the Vesara Style is also found as an independent style, created through the selective mixing of Naagara and Dravida Styles. Protecting the shrines from collapsing and ensuring that the suggested method of conservation does not create more troubles are two major parts of temple conservation. From the monumental structures to the futuristic modern architectures, anybody can learn a lot about the people and communities those inhabited these creations long before our time. Many cultures devoted the considerable resources to their religious architectures (sacral architectures or sacred architectures) and places of worship.

Project “Tending Temples” is about Reviving, Renovating and Beautifying the Premises and Architecture of Damaged and Abandoned Cave Temples, Isht Devta Shrines and Mythological Temples. Through this project Team Astitvam Foundation is spreading the creative morality to protect, rebuild or conserve the historical monuments representing prosperous rock carving art by Indian ancestors. Due to climatic, sociocultural and geological factors many rock carved architectures are damaged and abandoned, now days. Apart from ancient scriptures, various rock carving forms/ styles are the only source to understand the artistic, cultural, economical and social lifestyles of the generations buried in the golden pages of history. AF believes that it is imperative to take this approach to the youth of the next generation, so the Team AF is trying to provide the educational sessions to the villagers, citizens, and pilgrims to develop an awareness of the responsibility towards conservation of our prosperous structures. Getting inspired by #TendingTemples, Many youngsters are supporting the project by their time, vision and capital. This project is not only an important step for the preservation of architecture, but also an important initiative to save the rich culture of the nation.
